The Artisans Alliance Jawaja Weavers Division (AAJWD) was formed in 1976 by Prof Ravi, of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in association with national Institute of Designing. Omkar Lal, President of AAJWD shares his organization's hope and aspiration. 'Along with two artisans, Ravi formed this organization. Jawaja is a block in the district of Ajmer and consists of many small clusters. Ravi helped us for two years until we could manage on our own. Today, 18 more artisans have joined us.' Jose Antonio Rios and his family have been dedicated to the traditional art of carving and embossing leather furniture for several generations. This activity was embraced by Jose Antonio's grandparents, with the same devotion and caring dedication, using the same technique to produce hand-crafted items bearing their own unique touch. Jose Antonio Reos says 'For us, embossing leather is a family tradition. My father inherited it from his father, and handed it down to us. Today, my family and I are proudly following the traditions. Incorporating contemporary learning and designs, we are ready to face new challenges.'
