Some 70 years ago several fishing families moved from Madura to Java's Eastern coast because of the profusion of sea life there. During stormy weather they would mend their nets and make handicrafts. Capiz shells, or Jingle Oysters, grow like weeds in shallow sea beds. Before the fishermen got creative, capiz shells were only collected for the meat and the shells were discarded. Now nothing is wasted and they employ the shells in crafts such as these wind chimes.
- Capiz shell and coconut wind chimes make beautiful tinkling sounds in the wind
- Six strands of multicolored faintly iridescent capiz shells hang from a circular coconut wood fixture
- Choose from three capiz shell color combinations: Cream, brown, and lavender; Cream, brown, and orange/tan; and brown, cream, turquoise, green, and light green
- Shells are stranded together and fastened to coconut wood with clear fishing string
- Ready to hang
- Handmade in Bali, Indonesia
- Wind chimes measure approximately 24 inches high by 4.5 inches wide
