As paella and tapas identify with Spain, the same holds true for the Portuguese Cataplana. The name represents both the recipe and the vessel in which it is cooked. A cataplana works on the same principle as the modern pressure cooker, and is ideal for creating all types of dishes. The most famous of these dishes is called the 'Ameijoas na Cataplana' or Clams with Sausage and tomatoes.
